French death metal band Gojira is respected as one of the fastest growing metal bands on the planet. Bassist Jean-Michel Labadie is known as progressive player on the bass — and in the video above proves he's a badass on a mountain bike, too.
We caught up with Labadie between gigs and downhill runs to talk about how the two seemingly different activities combine to form his biggest passions in life.
RedBull.com: How long have you been mountain biking?
Jean-Michel Labadie: I have been riding mountain bikes since 1999 and have always been generally interested in action sports. At the age of 4, I was already on my first pair of skis and roller skates. Not long after, I started surfing and bodyboarding. But things got serious when I got my first skateboard at 11 years old — I began to participate in several amateur skate competitions and even a few BMX freestyle events. Basically, I have had a lifelong relationship with action sports since I was a small boy.

Judging from the level of riding in the film you are clearly a passionate, advanced rider. How often are you able to ride? I try to ride as much as I can considering our busy touring schedule. I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by a great group of semi-pro riders in my area, who I am learning new things from regularly.
